I would only substitute canned tomatoes for fresh here if you are planning on using the salsa in a recipe as opposed to serving it plain.
- Can of diced tomatoes, drained, or 5-7 plum tomatoes (seeded and chopped)
- 2 tbsp cilantro
- 2 tbsp red onion, minced
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 jalapeno pepper, stemmed, seeded and diced
- 2 tsp lime juice (the juice from ~ 1/2 lime)
- Mince garlic in food processor, add the rest of the ingredients to food processor and pulse a few times
- Add tomatoes, and pulse 1 or 2 times till tomatoes are just roughly chopped
